# Refer and earn

> Set up the program where your customers refer friends through WhatsApp and follow referrals and rewards.

## What it is for

Your customers refer friends through WhatsApp. When the friend becomes a customer, the referrer earns the reward and the friend can get a discount. Each customer gets a personal link at the `/i/` address of your domain.

## Who can do it

Only people with permission set up and pay the program. Everyone else sees a message on the screen saying so.

It shows up if the agency enabled the Refer and earn submodule for the organization.

## Where to click

**Marketing › Refer and earn**. The tabs are **Configure**, **Referrals**, **Rewards** and **Ranking**. The **Program on** switch is at the top.

## Step by step

**1. Set what the friend gets**

Under **What the referred friend gets**, choose **% coupon**, **Fixed coupon** or **Nothing**. The coupon is created in Payments and is applied on its own to the first charge.

**2. Set what the referrer gets**

Under **What the referrer gets**, choose **Pix**, **Coupon** or **Credit** and enter the amount.

**3. Say when it counts**

Under **When it counts**, choose **Pays the 1st purchase**, **Deal won** or **Comes to the 1st appointment**.

**4. Set limits**

Under **Limits**, enter the **Maximum per person per month** and for how many days **The link is valid**. 

**5. Edit the message**

Under **Message the customer forwards**, write the invitation and check the **WhatsApp preview**.

**6. Save and turn on**

Click **Save the program** and leave **Program on**. Changes apply to new referrals.

To ask for the referral at the right moment, use **Automatic invitation** (**Turn on** or **Edit**): it opens a Flow recipe.

## What happens next

* **Referrals** shows who clicked, became a contact or became a customer.
* **Rewards** separates **To pay**, **Waiting for the Pix key** and **Paid**. To pay, click **Pay**, make the Pix in your bank's app, attach the receipt and click **Mark as paid**. The person is notified on WhatsApp with the receipt.
* The reward is released 7 days after payment. A refund within that period cancels it.
* **Ranking** shows who referred the most.
* Once the program is turned off, no new link works. What was already earned stays.

> The reward may have tax implications for the payer and for the recipient. Check with your accountant.

## Common errors

* "Refer and earn is not available yet: the server has not enabled the program yet."
* "Check the values: there is an invalid field."
* "Could not save the program."
* "Attach the receipt to mark as paid."
* "This person has no open conversation to ask for the key."
* "Outside the 24 h window: the approved “Indicação” template is missing to ask through Official WhatsApp."
* Referral "Declined · self-referral (same phone)".
