# Contract templates

> Create contract texts with variables, which the customer accepts by link, with a receipt.

## What it's for

A template is the contract text, with variables that the system fills in with each customer's data. The customer accepts it by link, with a receipt.

## Who can do it

Everyone sees the tab and the list. Only Owner and Admin create, edit, and delete ("Only the Owner and Admins create and edit templates.").

## Where to click

**Settings › Organization › Contract templates**.

## Step by step

**1. Create the template**

Click **New template**.

**2. Give it a name and write the text**

Fill in **Template name** (up to 120 characters) and **Contract text** (up to 20,000).

**3. Insert the variables**

Under **Insert variable**, click a variable in the list to put it in the text, between double curly braces. Use only the ones in the list.

**4. Save**

Leave **Active template** on and click **Save**.

## What happens next

The template goes into the list with the number of variables and of sends. Contracts already sent do not change when you edit the template. To remove a template, use **Delete**; to just pause it, turn off **Active template**.

## Common errors

* **Unknown variable**: the message says which variable does not exist. Replace it with one from the list.
* **Fill in the name (up to 120 characters) and the text (up to 20,000).**
* **Only the Owner and Admins change templates.**
* **Couldn't save. Try again.**
* **Could not load the templates.** Use **Try again**.
* **Not available yet**: "Contracts are being set up in your account."
